Transmission Fluid Service

WHAT IS IT

Automatic transmission fluid is a specially formulated oil containing numerous additives and is responsible for many things including cleaning, cooling, lubricating, transmitting force, transmitting pressure, preventing varnish build-up, and protecting the transmission on a day-to-day basis. As there are many different types of automatic transmission fluid, we recommend using the type outlined in your owner’s manual.

WHY DO IT

Regular transmission fluid exchanges are important as they reduce the build-up of contaminants caused by heat and debris (such as metal fragments and worn clutch material) within your transmission fluid as it breaks down. The breakdown of transmission fluid will eventually cause wear to the moving parts in your transmission. We recommend having your transmission fluid changed every two 60,000 km, or as recommended in your owner’s manual. If equipped with a replaceable transmission filter, it should be replaced at the same time as it can become clogged and cause serious damage to your transmission.

HOW IT’S SERVICED

During every transmission fluid service, we will exchange the old transmission fluid within your automatic transmission with new fluid and replace your transmission filter and pan gasket at the same time.

There are two levels of transmission fluid service:

  1. Fluid Drain: Old transmission fluid is drained and replaced with new transmission fluid. This process replaces about 40% of your transmission fluid, effectively mixing the new and old fluid.
  2. Transmission Fluid Flush: Transmission Flush – Replaces 100% of your transmission fluid and purges accumulated particles and deposits from the entire transmission. Fluid is expelled from your transmission using a cooler line flushing machine or a pump inlet. The transmission pan is inspected and cleaned and the filter is replaced. A complete batch of new, pure fluid is added.
  3. Fluid Flush: Old transmission fluid is “flushed” and exchanged with new transmission fluid using specialized equipment. This process is superior to the Fluid Drain because the “flushing” process replaces 100% of your transmission’s fluid, as well as reducing a higher degree of sludge and other contaminants.
